About

epicur-abo

“EPICUR” alliance was established in November 2019 and belongs to the first generation of European Universities. Eight top European Universities from six countries joined their forces to respond to the innovative European Commission’s “European Universities” Initiative. Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece) participates in the “EPICUR” alliance with the following partner universities: University of Strasbourg (France) – coordinator, Adam-Mickiewicz University (Poland), University of Amsterdam (Netherlands), University of Freiburg (Germany), University of Haute-Alsace (France), Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Germany) and University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (Austria). In December 2021 , the EPICUR Alliance welcomed a new member, the University of Southern Denmark.

EPICUR, named after the ancient Greek philosopher Epicurus, paves the way for the European University of the future, where all boundlessly mobile students, professors, researchers and staff can acquire a broad and interdisciplinary academic perspective regardless of their ethnic, cultural or socio-economic background. EPICUR’s purpose is to prepare the new generation of well-informed and creative European citizens capable of creating new knowledge and innovation. Key objectives are multilingualism, education in Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS), the creation of virtual campus for mobility and teaching modules, sustainable development and entrepreneurship, always closely linked with local communities and stakeholders.
